Too bad I never managed a video of Popeye, the Quaker I had; He was a real screamer.... loudest animal I've ever encountered.

Cute!

i do like cockatiels too...they can be so sweet and i love the way they sing. There is a really sweet one that lives in the pet food store we get our bird seed/turtle food. He always gets excited when he sees me and sticks his head out for me to give him a good scratch I always hate to leave:) Our little budgie loves to play with those little plastic balls with bells inside...if you roll one across the floor, he'll chase after it and .grab it and drop it by me

thanks for the information and advice. I also like ring necked parakeets, but have found out they tend to be very territorial and may hurt a smaller bird like a budgie, so I have shelved that idea.. If I got a new bird and kept it upstairs to play with our kids ( they love birds too) and introduced the two birds slowly would that help, or is it better not to try?
-
@hplexmark1 I wouldn't get another bird with the expectation that they will get along. I have seen many quakers that do get along very well with other birds, but there is no guarantee and that goes for any kind of bird.
Andreas used to get on very well with our green cheek conure, but now they won't have anything to do with each other. He's also very territorial and I've heard that this isn't uncommon in quakers, which is a risk as a budgie is considerably smaller than a quaker.

my pet bird dose that to but hes green

I feel your pain. and I love to sleep in.
-
I wake up to a cockatiel whistling "Shave and a Haircut" and wolf-whistling at himself every morning. XD
That's a pretty quaker!
-
pretty parrot take care of her!
-
@anelir Aww thank you! They're a noisy bird ahaha. I've had my guy for almost three years now, however he is also around that three, so he's all crazy hormones at the moment.
The other birds you can hear are my mum's :3 A green conure and two cockatiels.
-
Haha, I also wake up to that XD That is the most beautiful blue Quaker I have ever seen. I have a green Quaker that I have had for about half a year now. I got him at a rescue so he is about 13 and I have fallen in love with them. It sounds like you might have more?
-
@Aranur We actually have two cockatiels and a green conure, however I think all our birds just ended up picking up cockatiel sounds. My quaker even whistles exactly like our male cockatiel. Too bad he knows a terrible song.
-
@azisabuttbutt it honeestly doesn't it sounds like that cockitiel kami-chan that whistles the chocobo song and gets mad when you whistle with him.
-
@Aranur Oh it gets irritating when you are trying to sleep ahaha. I have realised though that my quaker doesn't sound like most quakers I've seen on youtube.
-
Awww yours has a cute scream. ours has the most annoying scream. its like she's fussing at you because you don't pay attention to her.
-
Who needs an alarm clock when u have a quaker hahaha
-
i love andreas but not when he screams over skype for like 3 hours

i have a budgie who is very sweet and friendly but i would like to have another bird too. would a Quaker parrot get along with a budgie, or would they probably fight and the budgie would get hurt or feel neglected? ( i don't want to upset the little guy, but I love parrots/parakeets and would like another bird)

@hplexmark1 With that being said having another bird around can be very enriching. Andreas still enjoys the company of other birds as long as they keep their distance.
You just have to make sure that their out of cage time is supervised, esp with such a big size difference.

@azisabuttbutt
makes sense. our budgies cage is open most of the time, so he can come and go as he pleases. If we did get another bird, he'd have to be in his cage, door closed, while the other bird was out. Still debating whether to try a new bird or not...our little budgie is so sweet and funny and always brightens my day with his words and songs ( is it possible to get "addicted" to having birds -lol)

@hplexmark1 He sounds like a real sweetie! I also think it's very easy to get addicted to birds. We started with one and now have four; two tiels, a green cheek and a quaker.
I think that even though our birds aren't friendly with each other they do love having another bird around. Just have to be prepared if they do end up hating each other as it's a lot more work.
Maybe another budgie? I've found tiels to be peaceful even if they don't get along they seem unlikely to get into actual fights.
