My dream is to use this wonderful southern exposure on my house to install a solar awning. The panels nearest the house would be flat plate solar thermal collectors providing for domestic hot water and supplementing our forced hot water heating in the cold New England winters. The next 2-3 rows of panels would be 3-4 kW of grid connected solar PV and could provide the majority if not exceed our home's electricity needs. A small piece of the PV would store energy in a battery bank and provide emergency power to the circulator pumps for our heating system so that in the event of a long winter power outage, we would still have heating in the home.
