Jedward were appearing at HMV in the Whitewater Shopping Centre, Newbridge on Monday 20th July 2010, for a signing of their new album, Planet Jedward. 180 people who had begun queueing outside the day beforehand were allowed into the shopping centre that night to stay indoors. They were the people who were going to meet Jedward at HMV.

The next morning, people begun queueing outside the Whitewater thinking that they were the first in line. Included in those was my 13 year old sister Fíona. When a couple of people had gathered, security told them that the 180 people were already inside and that they were queueing up for nothing. Some of these people left, but only as more and more arrived. Security stopped telling people that they were already too late and allowed a large crowd to gather.

Word got around that after the signing in HMV, Jedward were going to Newbridge Silverware (around the corner from the Whitewater) to see and try on the Michael Jackson glove and do some filming for a documentary. Newbridge Silverware had posted details of this to the front page of their website and invited ALL fans to come and join them and meet the boys. Newbridge Silverware severely underestimated how many people would show up.

Some people got there early (around noon) and were told that they would get in, including my sister. When more and more people started showing up, those who were there early were given tickets to assure that they were the ones who were getting in since they were there first. More and more people showed up until there was quite a large crowd. Newbridge Silverware had 2 security personnel for a crowd of hundreds.

Jedward arrived but the crowds were so large that there was a security risk in getting the boys inside. Newbridge Silverware management then announced that Jedward were not appearing due to a safety concern... and the boys left.

Cue my little sister's heart breaking.

The next morning, Fíona rang The Colm and Lucy Show on 2fm to tell them about what happened. This is a recording of her phone-in along with pics of the crowds, the glimpse Fíona got of John and our sister Níamh's efforts to cheer her up by dressing up as Jedward.
