The sluice in my video is a Keene model A51. Setup of your sluice box will be similar. This box was purchased in Auburn CA. at Pioneer Motherload Mining Supply ( http://www.pioneermining.com ).

The flared opening makes it easy for me to setup in the river or creek.

The general rule for ANY sluice box is 1 inch of drop for every foot of box. My box is 3 feet give or take so I need about 3 inches of drop. Rather than dwell on that...setup as follows:

Notice the water level in the front, just at the joint where the box sides flair out. You can also see that the flow is just above the bolts that retain the gold riffles.

Note also the rear snaps on the outside of the box are submerged to the rivets that bind the snaps to the box.

Water passing over the riffles is just that, Passing OVER the riffles, not ahead of or behind them.

When you adjust the drop of the box, look for the water to pass or appear to hop directly over the top of the riffles.

When setup you will notice behind the riffles how the material rotates. This is what you want.

I have found for me this is the ideal setup. Play with it and see what you think. It does not have to be perfect.

What a FUN way to spend a day....
