Partially correct. Ales should be a little cooler than room temperature, siphoned by hand pumps from a keg in the basement. Lagers actually need to be cold in order to be palatable. If I order a good ale at a pub here in the US, I let it get warm, but I'll drink the lager right away.

Mass market beer... isn't beer.

More than a bit belatedly, but...beer should NOT be drunk cold. It should be slightly below room temperature, but not cold. Cold masks flavors, one of reasons that 'normal' American beer is drunk that way, I suspect. It masks that it doesn't HAVE any.

Now, to make things absolutely clear, there are excellent American beers, with a country with the size and population, there would HAVE to be.

But, mass market US beer is rather bland and tasteless.
