Why is oosaka spelled おおさか instead of おうさか I thought that う made a letter double ( oh and there's いいえ, I just thought of that). How do you know when to use う?

@TheGuyFromChicago Hi, although both can be pronounced the same(おお= おう), both rules are valid. The combination in a word cannot be changed. You have to remember well that what is their combination, no other way to KNOW WHEN, just remember it well. Just like, why 'ate' but not 'eated', why 'wrote' but not 'writed', it's decided from the very beginning and cannot easily be changed.

I like the fact that this is random and makes me have to think about it! I also like how there are words with the Hiragana character in them so I can read that too! I'm studying for a Hiragana quiz and this helped a lot! :)
