Some initial flight testing of the HK600 Gasser conversion. The first results are not promising for the weed eater engine, it needs more power, adding collective pitch cause the engine to bog down. I will try carb mods and cylinder porting to see if that will help.
Guess there's a lot to be said for those glow plug engines. The magneto in that engine must cost a lot more in weight than at least I would have thought. I actually expected it to be overpowered. Wonder what the horsepower difference is. Don't you have a buddy that could/would film for you? Thanks by the way for sharing the experience! Hope you don't give up.
@josephcperry Yes it is heavier than a glow engine, however keep in mind that the engine is dead stock at this point. Hobby engines are built around performance while the string trimmer is about value and emission control. Stock it has about .75 HP while the super mod string trimmer engines for RC boats can put out 3.5 HP. I need to add about 1 HP and it will be all good. Carb, exhaust and port mods should do the trick. Stay tuned for more updates........
