I thought I was the only person that considered the NES branding to be plausible. It would be a genius market strategy to draw back consumers lost with Wii. NES Stream, NES Viu, NES Dual and NES 2x (two fold) are names I think would fit nicely. What do you think?

(2/2)actually in a sense took a shot at Apple and mocked their iPod, iPad, and iPhone by merging the "Wii U" title with apple's successful brands and instead crafted it using the theory where they would simply call it Nintendo. I think this will be the step that Nintendo will take in order to avoid conflicted that they have predicted, such as yourself, that Apple will make a desperate move, including possibly that of a console. I also believe the Wii U will be redesigned completely.

(1/2)Due to past devices and theories that you have stated surrounding nintendo's reluctence to call the Wii, the "Nintendo Wii" I think I have come up with an interesting title that compiles many of the current theories AND Nintendo past statements. I believe that a possible name change for the "Wii U" will be the "UNintendo" Nintendo has stated that it itself believes its current competition lies not in the other gaming giants, but rather Apple itself. Therefore it would be interesting if they

With the recent comment Iwata made about how they don't consider Wii U to be a 'home console', maybe that's the reason for a potential name change.
"As for the Wii U, although this system is categorized in the general video game description of a home console system, the play styles the company is proposing with the Wii U are not limited to the ones which are available only in front of TV sets, so I believe that we will not use the term “home console system” for this hardware."

@wildgun95 Interesting theory, but as someone who's worked with trademark and copyright registration, I can tell you that it's not possible to possess a trademark for the general use of a letter of the alphabet.
If that were the case and the makers of the uDraw tablet wanted to force Nintendo to stop using the name Wii U, they would have brought up a court case many, many months ago.
Additionally, Apple could have sued Nintendo over the Nintendo DSi if that were the case. :P

The problem with Wii Us name is that it's meaningless. It does nothing to excite anyone. The name for Wii was puzzling at first, but it was so different that it could stand on its own with a weird name. Wii U isn't as different from consoles as Wii was.Now Wii was cool and i'm wearing Mario pants right now, but its charm wore off for a lot of people. Many people think Wii U is just an addon for the Wii and is confusing. Branding wise many people won't even give it a look if related to wii

@thepermman As I've said in the video, the Wii U name comes off as "meaningless" and "unexciting" NOW in January 2012 because it has little context yet and Nintendo hasn't even begun to build up the brand itself with the public, let alone reveal the system beyond aside from the basics of its HD visuals and unique controller.
Based on what we know, I think its premature to judge the potential of a brand before it's been properly launched and promoted, rather than merely introduced.
