Following our recent trip to the seaside, I found another one of these external lifts that travels from the top to the bottom of the cliff. This one however is derelict.
It is right near the ferry terminal (these 'TransEuropa' ferries travel from here in Ramsgate (east England) to the Belgian city of Ostend).
Looks like this lift has been out of action for years - there isn't much to go down in the lift for, but the ferry terminal which is accessed by car anyhow.
I don't recognise the call buttons to be able to determine the manufacturer of this lift, the top one I thought was obviously an Otis, but the one at the bottom - i'm not too sure.
Still, an interesting lift even if out of action. Would love to have been one of those pigeons for 5 minutes so I could see inside the lift shaft!

(I'll be uploading the photos at the end to my flickr page - TBA)

  • Very poor elevator services, because is these elevator might be un-used. In future plan re-development building work or replace old one out of damage for safety. Shouldn't report it for that elevator repairs works anyway. And Elevator Company for a new ones & increase of other one elevator as possible works better anyway. That pretty tough to use elevator isn't!!!

  • @Quentinmovie lazy bones ;)

  • Your search for derelict lifts is beautiful and I love her very much. Thanks for your video

  • @Meanmanmartin2007 There still is a lift to the beach in Whitby & the council charge 60p to use it!

  • the life at the other end still works in the summer months.

  • Messrs Waygood built the most if all of the lifts in Kent. They later became part of the Otis Group, so in one way it is an Otis. If research found that this lift would still be used as much as the other one annually and a heritage fund can be secured, it could be restored.

  • Excellent video

I remember there was a lift like this at the beach in Whitby.

  • i remembered the lift working at the other end of ramsgate years ago

  • They should put another lift in, so you don't have to use the stairs.
