Minecraft Clone video 01

I'm working on a game based on Minecraft, as a spare-time challenge. It will eventually be improved upon, and hopefully turn into something interesting. I'm writing it in C++ and OpenGL. Here's my devblog: http://thrustgoblin.tumblr.com/

This is just a quick video of some very, very preliminary work. Note, there is only one texture right now, and this is just a small portion of an infinite world. Everything is randomly generated, using Perlin noise, so the tunnels look pretty rough (not very tunnel like). More to come.

Looks very nice, and your perlin noise style is very inspiring for my own minecraft clone ;-)

but i must say its a bit sad that everyone is making a clone nowadays, but i guess it will also create more demand for quality in the projects that want to succeed :)

I don't think it's sad to clone other games for good exercise, and it got me into the games industry. Besides it's fun! I'm going to change directions eventually, and make something unique.

This looks great! I first thought it was a video about a minecraft "clone" mod, and continued to think that till I saw the description, otherwise I'd never be able to tell the dif.

i like it but you sohuld make the texture a bit different or people might get mad and also it would give it a different feel(im only saying this because i thought that the grass looked too similer to minecraft. good luck.
