Jaco Pastorius Park

On November 28, 2007, the Oakland Park City Commission unanimously voted to name the city's new downtown park after Jaco Pastorius, The World's Greatest Bass Player. Jaco's hometown celebrates its most famous artist with a tremendous honor: a living memorial with a focus on the arts. The 2 1/2 year grassroots effort has come to fruition. Now south Florida residents and Jaco fans worldwide will have a place to reflect upon and enjoy the legacy of a music giant. There are also plans to incorporate Jaco's name and story into the City's various performing arts events.

The park is located in downtown Oakland Park, Florida, at the intersection of Dixie Highway and NE 38th Street. It is between Dixie Highway and the Florida East Coast Railroad.

Who loves ya, Jaco...

  • amazing

  • Wow... O.O So Jaco and Hendrix actually met... The two big Js of distortion and electric vibe riding together, that would have been epic. Jaco and Hendrix, the twin towers of modern music ^.^

  • I got to spend so much time with him and we had so much in common, sports too, that it was really more like a couple old buddies within a short period of time. Way too long a story to fit on here, among the interesting things he told me about was Hendrix telling him when he had to be very young, and was a member of Wayne Cochrane's CC Riders band that he would be his next bass player. Also remarkable personal revelations within a short period of time, I appeared to introduce him to Bob Weir.

  • How was it to meet Jaco? Oh my God I must have been an honor ^.^ you are lucky R.I.P

  • fantasic xxxxxxx

  • Neat, altough Florida was his home, I got to spend a couple days with Jaco during this time, he even got me into the Jerry Garcia comeback show, we had deep jazz knowledge in common, bless you talented bro, Ray
