This is the infamous sketch that was broadcast on ABC1's "The Chaser's War On Everything" on 3rd June 2009, which parodied the Make A Wish Foundation. It copped so much flack in the media (including from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd) that the ABC made an official apology the next day. When the programme's scheduled repeat went to air the following night on ABC2, this sketch had been expurgated. Then the ABC announced that the show wouldn't even go to air for the next 2 weeks.
In my opinion, the sketch was a wonderfully inspired, satirical way of delivering the message "Please give money to this worthy cause - if you don't, these kids will miss out on some of life's pleasures which you and I might take for granted, but which they only have a limited time to experience."
To the people who have commented that the sketch was OK but the punchline crossed the line: far from being intentionally cruel to the kids, this was their satirical way of making sure that we should understand: "Oh - just in case the satire went over your head and you thought that sketch was only meant to be funny - the awful truth is, these kids will actually die - so don't just laugh or complain - donate some money."
I can say that it worked for me, because I made a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation as a result of seeing (and I'm not ashamed to say, laughing at) this sketch. I wonder how many of the 'morally outraged' people, who have been so vocal in criticising The Chaser, put their money where their mouth is and did the same?

  • Why did everyone react so badly to this? They followed this skit up with a far worse one about incest.

  • @Rutes0806isback Yep, which you'll also find on this channel - look for "The Inbredy Bunch"

  • this is so LOL , Australia really needs to relax its batty wherver this is from, this is lol. No one should have to "apologise" over this clip

  • even though its funny, its a bit over the top and they should have been in more trouble

  • Funniest thing I've seen in a while! How can people not like this? Pretending to be sensitive about this shit is so sad, when their obviously only joking.

  • what's this i hear now? Make-A-Wish unable to accept new wish applications? "There is a trend towards more expensive wishes, and we don't have the funds to meet the increased demand"

  • This skit was hilarious, that season was very toned down and when this came up it made it all worth it. Its comedy! if you dont like it then fuck off and get cancer

  • oh my god i nearly died of laughter.

  • @Strongholder123 Do not speak as though I have lost none that I love, for I have. But while I feel sympathy for others in that situation, I cannot sympathize with indulging greed. The millions spent by the Make a Wish Foundation could have been used to develop a cure for cancer, to save others and actually prevent death. It could have saved thousands of lives in areas which suffer from hunger and poverty. I believe my heart is in the right place for wanting that.

  • @aleronstube

They're dying children, CHILDREN, what else would you expect of them but what you term as "selfish behavior". Until you have been in the position where you have to deal with the possibility that a child you love is going to die please please refrain from this kind of cold hearted cynicism. It doesn't help, and breaks hearts that are already broken.

  • Fuck you all this is not funny at all when your kids is laying there in a death bed r u going to lagh at theme when they ask can i have some water and tell them no

  • they were taking the piss out of the foundation, not the kids
