Henri Matisse was born at Le Cateau-Cambrésis in the North of France on December 31, 1869. His parents, Emile Matisse and Héloise Gérars, had a general store selling household goods and seed. Henri planned on a legal career, and in 1887/88 studied law in Paris, in 1889 he was employed as a clerk in a solicitor’s office. It was in 1890 that he was first attracted to painting. Confined to his bed for nearly a year (1890) after an intestinal operation, he chose drawing as a pastime.

fancy transitions of frames but distracting from the real beauty of Matisse's work. I'd prefer looking at a few paintings versus a hundred quick ones. Although, the music is an excellent complement. Perhaps, this is a perfect example of how digital technology pales in comparison to the real art of painting.

As the ancient Egyptians might say, the " Ka " of Marilyn wasn't there ( The " ka " being unique to each individual ). I learned about this from several semesters of cultural anthropology in college.

@knoxvilleguy2 I know what you mean. It's nice envy. You are right about Monroe. I saw one called Pola Lane (a real woman) who looked exactly like MM down to the voice, but the "essence" of Monroe's spirit wasn't there. Beautiful cubic zirconias can be made and even fool people, but nothing takes the place of a true and tried cut and polished diamond.

Actually, a little envy is good if it moves someone to improve their own skill sets.
Even if they could clone MM, she wouldn't be the same as the original. Hence the term Classic. Kerouac is a classic, MM is a classic, John Lennon was a classic. Spielberg & Kurosawa are classics.
The sketches were great !!

@knoxvilleguy2 When I visited my brother I a bit surprised at how big the Matisse repro was. I guess I've forgotten the size of it..
No need to be green, believe me, it wasn't easy to make that. I had a hell of a time trying to get the right shade of red. .
You are right about Marilyn. She still bigger than any female celebrity today.
I left you another link to sketches and another painting in your PM. Absolutely! In this digital age, we need to go back and try to learn from the old masters.

Interesting. Actually I'm green with envy right about now !! Actually kind of an avocado shade with patches of khaki & lime thrown in..... !! I have a photo of Marilyn that I could scan if you needed a reference. It's greyish - black & white, only her lips are red. M.M. has been done almost to the point of being a cliche.
We need more creativity on this planet !!

@knoxvilleguy2 Check your private messages. I sent you a link to the Matisse reproduction I did of Harmony in Red.
I did a good sketch in charcoal of Diana Ross and one in powder color of Joan Collins. I also did one of Jean Harlow but that one I don't know where it is. I don't have it in Photobucket.

I remember trying to draw the face of this musician, Basia, from her album covers & getting something looking like Picasso ! That's when I thought " Try writing short stories..... ". I have done short videos, but nothing that's going to win any awards, except if the judges have low expectations ( Ken Burns I ain't ) !!!
