  • I know next to bupkis about Cincinnati baseball. Anyone in the YouTube audience who know anything of the history of these 11?

  • Frank Robinson was one of the players. In fact, he was in his first season as a major leaguer in 1956.

  • Ted hurts his back by a slipped disk caused by a clubhouse brawl that year? I put a question because it is been disputed by few of what really happened. But that was Ted's last great slugging year. My question is who would mess with Ted?

  • Notice that in the clip they never referred to the team's name. The "red scare" was in full force in 1956 and the Cincinnati team owners wanted people to call the team the "Redlegs" not the "Reds" as the press was using the term "Reds" to mean Communists. But most people still called them the "Reds".

  • Does anyone else remember eating at Klu's steakhouse? I believe it was near the corner of Victory Pkwy and Mcmillan in upper Walnut Hills...Must have been late 50's,probably before he was traded...A gentle giant of a man...Can you imagine his stats if he had been (heaven forbid) a NY Yankee with that short RF porch in Yankee Stadium?

  • @rayjr62 the original name was the redstockings

  • 1956 was Frank Robinson's rookie year.

.298 AVG 38 HR 83 RBI and won the Rookie of the Year!!

    Talk about a damn tank!

  • FYI: Joe Nuxhall is the youngest player in MLB history, he broke in at age 15.

  • @eheaven3 Back in the 50's their official name was 'Redlegs' for exactly the reason you mention. It wasn't till they won the pennant in 1961 they reverted back to their original name of Reds.

  • @buckfan1969 They won 91 games that year. They had great hitting and played solid defense, but didn't have the pitching to keep up with Brooklyn or Milwaukee. Other than Brooks Lawrence winning 19 games that year, the staff didn't do so well.

  • @soulierinvestments Well, the 1956 Cincinnati Reds won 91 games that season, but they came in 3rd place behind the Milwaukee Braves and the Brooklyn Dodgers. It would be a few years (about 6) before they would win the pennant and go to the World Series.

  • well if this is 1956, the cincinnati reds despite winning a double header against the brooklyn dodgers this particular day, finished third (2 games back) to the first place dodgers in the national league. the yankees beat the dodgers in 7, in an all new york world series that don larson threw the only world series no hitter (perfect game) in world series history.
