Elvis Presley You Gave Me A Mountain (1/14/73)
Written by Marty Robbins. Elvis recorded this song live several times, one of the first times being April 9, 1972 during his performance in Hampton Roads, VA which was seen in the documentary Elvis On Tour, and June 21, 1977 during the Elvis in Concert TV show filmed in Rapid City, SD. There are other versions available from 1972 during 1972 and 1973 that are also available. He also sang this song during the Aloha From Hawaii Satellite Concert January 14, 1973, which is where this version is from, which is available on the remixed Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite CD released in 1998, and Elvis Aron Presley silver box set.

Born in the heat of the desert
My mother died giving me life
Deprived of the love of a father
Blamed for the loss of his wife
You know Lord I've been in a prison
For something that I never done
It's been one hill after another and
I've climbed them all one by one

Oh But this time, Lord you gave me a mountain
A mountain I may never climb
It isn't Lord a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time

My woman got tired of heartaches
Tired of the grief and the strife
So tired of working for nothing
Just tired of being my wife
She took my one ray of sunshine
She took my pride and my joy
She took my reason for living
She took my small baby boy

Oh and this time, Lord you gave me a mountain
A mountain I may never climb
It isn't Lord a hill any longer
You gave me a mountain this time
You gave me a mountain this time
A mountain, this time, oh oh oh
