The last stop of the California Zephyr in Sacramento- March 22, 1970. Silent film posted by Iowarails, I added title cards and a soundtrack song- "Never Marry a Railroad Man" by Shocking Blue, also released in 1970.
@wagfelt I trust that your computer has a volume control? Feel free to turn down the volume and play your own awful music, or make train noises with your mouth, or fart along to the video at will.
Thank you for being interested and commenting! I was only 2 1/2 years old when this film was shot, but my grandfather spent his whole career with WP, and my father's first job was with WP stringing signal wire across Nevada in the summer of 1949, so I have an interest in this. Never having lived in an era of train travel being common, I have to say that I'm thankful that at least Amtrak exists. I hope to be able to take the Zephyr from Sacramento to Denver someday.
@PROPHETICPRODUCTIONZ That is very cool! Maybe you can start a tradition of taking some kind of train ride on your birthday- even if it's a short day trip or something.
Thanks so much for posting this. For me, 1970 seems like a few years ago. Simpler times. Although passenger rail was on the decline, we had far more service then compared to what we have today.
Why in the world would you put that awful music on this great video?
