Those failure reports can't be trusted.
One of the arguments against 5.56 is that intermediate cartridges almost have no place in Afghanistan or Iraq apart from urban scenarios. Because, newsflash, there are still engagements over an assault rifle's max practical range.

@Goontrader2 You lost me there. The main intermediate cartridge opposition against 5.56 (such as 6.8 SPC) claim to have higher performance over longer distances, etc etc etc and you, someone who doesn't agree with the 5.56 being issued, don't even use that as an argument against me?
Well, most of the failures to tumble are caused by engagements over the practical range of a 14.5" carbine.
