UP 844 Steam Locomotive with helper engines cut in at Sparks Nevada for the ride "over the hill" . Watch this one in High Quality. Helper locomotives were the UP 1996 in Southern Pacific colors & the 1983 in Western Pacific colors. The 844 was pulling 13 rail cars on this leg into Roseville. We shot this video just West of the English Colony Way grade crossing in Penryn Calif today 100 yards West from the Private road crossing for Mandarin Hill Orchards, Frank Aguilar operates that orchard there. One of my sons, John D, got 35MM photos using my Minolta X-700 with a "motor drive" winder attached. There will be an updated link for those pictures to follow.
1996 & 83' were added in Sparks, not Truckee.

Good one John ! I actually liked the wavering camera, whether intentional or not. Like feelin' the rockin' and rollin' as you're highballin' along ! Maybe the winds
contributed to that (?) Still . . a good effect here ! 'Dogh

'Dogh, I was propped up against a barbed wire fence on that narrow hill to get the shot, was trying to free my Altafest T shirt from the wire without ripping it!! Did not realize I was caught until I started shooting!
