  • is this just water and phenolphthalein?

  • @UyNj it was three years ago, but I'm pretty sure it was NaOH.. Sodium Hydroxide..

  • wow how retarded its not a chemical reaction!!! its an indicator!!!!!

  • And how is a chemical indicator reacting with a substance not a chemical reaction?

    Electric perhaps? ;)

  • Commonly known as a napoleanotic reaction.

  • @jessiebm123 How do you think the indicator works, sweetie? The indicator works by a REACTION between hydroxide ions and phenolphtalein. Phenolphtalein is colorless, after reacting, it turns purple.

  • try to make it stay light pink!

  • The indicator does change, it loses a proton. One of the anionic forms of of phenolphthalein is pink. Loss of a proton is a chemical change. A little reading about phenolphthalein will clear this up for ya I'm sure.

  • @KPPokemon you moron go get some education

  • @jessiebm123 acid + base -> salt + water get ur chemistry right.

  • it is because it is not a change of the substance (indicator) or of the chemical (NaOH) no new substance is made so it is not a chemical reaction it is a physical change
