I have this and I attritbute it to stress, it started with me about 20 years ago and has gotten worse as time and my stress has gotten worse, it feels like my lashes are "hitting" my eye lid below my eyebrow and it drives me crazy and my eyes always feel as if I have something in them, I cannot stop "picking" at my eyes, I wish I could go back on my Wellbutrin, it really helped.....

It is a biologically related disorder called TRICHOTILLOMANIA. She can be tested for the gene defect. A combination of behavoral therapies or SSRI medication can be helpful.

Ive done it since 5th grade now I've gotten a little better and I now only do it on the to right corner of my right eye

yo, im a guy and i pull out eyelashes cause they get in the way of my eyesight and sticks to my lower eyelashes. sometimes you have to pull them out.....

@cait72590 I had the EXACT same experience. My mother did the same when I started pulling my eyelashes at 9 years old. I am 18 and just found out today that Trichotillomania is what I have had all along and that other people actually have it. I had a lot of anger towards my parents when I found out that I really needed help when I was a child and all they did was yell at me and make me feel crazy. =P But It's all good now. I'm finding ways to deal with it. Good luck to you! =)

i am 58 yrs old and i have been doing this since i was 21. at first, it was just some eyelashes gone, but in 99 i lost my entire family and my brows and lashes are gone. i pull daily, an have given in to this. it is a form of self mutilation for me, and i urge anyone doing this to seek help. it's too late for me, now that they are all gone, it hurts when one grows out now, like a spinter, almost, so, i pull. get help when you are young....

@cait72590 wow... This sounds so familiar. I thought no one else had these problems. My mom would yell at me too... I made a video on how I got rid of this habit on my channel. I used fake eyelashes (i know it sounds like a hassle but once you do it a few times it's really quick) and that kept me from touching my own lashes. They are almost all back now! I hope this helps.

@CrissySnow I have had the same problem since middle school. I just made a video on it and it's on my channel. I'm not trying to get publicity, I just really wish I had someone to talk to about it all those years ago. My method is just wearing fake lashes. I know it sounds like a hassle, but after a few tries it becomes easy and quick. That helped me not touch my own eyelashes. I hope this helps! Keep your head up!

i put mine in a cup and collect them. This happened after my dad died.

my mom used to yell at me for doing it and make me feel like a freak. She would say I pulled out my eyelashes and I didn't even remember doing it. She would threaten me and say "Do you want to end up in a hospital where they tie your hands down?"
Looking at this is kind of painful to realize how much my mother judged me instead of getting help for me. and I was 10 years old.
i have suffered with this since i was around 13, which i now think happened after we had a house fire, which was very very traumatic. we lost our home completely and had to wait for it to be rebuilt. i am now 52 and still do this, usually when stressed or bored. i wish i could stop it, i make silly excuses to people who comment i have no eyelashes.
