Many people wonder why we - Latvians - are being so "passive" and "do not take action against our government". Well, it is very much like a vicious circle - the way in which the country has been run for the last 20 years has bitter consequences, and the nation is constantly struggling with them. It takes very hard effort to get by, that there is simply no time and energy left for a unified form of political counteraction and protest. The country is relatively very young and still learning...

I am truly glad that your predictions have been wrong. Latvia is still on the map, not bankrupt and goes on. I guess this is due to the average Latvian having the ability to endure such and even harder circumstances. But for the time being we are indeed knee-deep in economic trouble. However, I believe, we'll manage fine in the end and perhaps these hardships will prove to be a good lesson in a way.

I just don't get why people in Latvia are so passive and willing to take so much unfairness (and crap) from the government? .... I hope that soon people will take an action and just do what is needed = fight for their rights! Otherwise it is just too depresing here, and it's getting worse every day and the most terrible feeling is unknowing what is going to happen next week, 3 months from now and so on... Do You think there is a light at the end of the tunnel for Latvia?
P.s. great video

People leave the country, and is substituted by people from the East that accepts lower wages. the country doesn't have much products like oil, gas, metals. it does have woods and touristical things. on the other hand, its atractive for its strategical geographical position for Eastern and Western countries nearby. All these factors set its future for good or bad.

Thinking about this from a Latvian point of view turns your suggestion into something very evil indeed. How do you suppose Latvia will survive to become something else than what the homo sovieticuses want it to be if all the bright people go to London and get globalised? 'What else is there to do' is the epitome of hopeless advice.
do you live in Latvia? Just curious.
