The new animation makes it much much easier to gague the range of your FoK, whereas the old animation shot knives out at random angles. Much more utility to the new animation, AND it doesn't toss a dagger at every target in range like the old one, making life easier when AOEing very large packs of mobs (Onyxia, Naxx Trash, Razorscale, etc.)
