  • I wouldnt use any water from the tap or any bottled water that contains sodium of any kind. So I would look at the label and see how "pure" it is.

  • Growing venus fly traps in soil? Really? I think moss holds much more moisture, but I suppose you are welcome to your opinion. I grow mine in Spaghnum Moss with some Peat or Shedded Spaghnum moss. This is what most website vendors tell you to use as a medium. If you have success with other types of media, more power to ya! But this is the most common instruction. Peralite is for airating the soil. Since you dont want to have the soil dry out, I wouldnt reccommend that.

  • Raw Meat? Not sure that is a good idea, thats overkill as far as I am concerened. Going to the pet store and getting some baby crickets or blood worms is probably better than raw meat.

  • Your house is like my dream! Your plants are magnificent but I have a question as I'm interested in buying a venus fly trap. Can I use a non dirt material, I have a few plants in a homemade hydroponics ebb and flow, I was just wondering if I could plant venus tly traps on something like hydroponic clay beads?

  • @zeronamagem Venus Fly Traps like a moist wet material, so depending on the media you choose, it would have to be something fine that holds water and doesnt mold.

  • I lived in florida and bought a venus flytrap at Home Depot. I have no clue what kind it was but all i did was put it into a larg bowl of spaghnum moss and let it fill with rain water. I just let it fill up. I read that the flytrap could grow under water so I never drained the water... it grew like wildfire. bloomed and split. and being in florida it always had something to eat... traps where closed all the time... i just left it alone.

  • @deadreckoning3980 Yes they do love a LOT of water and Florida is good, but they will need a Dormant period for the Winter months. You might want to place them in the refridgerator for about 2-3months!

  • Hi Chuck. It's nice to see a man with a passion for plants. Love the plants you have. I love gardening (veggies) but just don't have the green thumb for it. I am looking to buy a Fly Trap but know nothing about them, well, until now! I am so green with envy. :-)

  • cooooool

  • Oh my gosh Chuck, if I ever meet you I'll buy that Venus fly trap for at least what it was worth when you bought it or if you didn't buy it then just think of a price you want and I'll be glad to buy it!

  • wow chuck u have really nice things! i wish to meet u

  • say you were to catch a rat or something, would it be smart to cut it up and feed little pieces to the plant (little shop of horrors moment) or would it kill it?

  • cool
