I think LeMond was a babe when he was young, lol :)

I met LeMond years ago at the Thrift Drug Classic in Pittsburgh, PA. What a nice guy. I yelled "LeMond" as I chased after him and he turned around with a smile on his face. We actually talked for a bit before he shook my hand and walked away. He was by himself, no group or anything like that. Just walking through the crowd, one of the greatest athletes ever. So cool...

I love the respect that i'm reading here for Lemond...one of my all time favourites and a childhood hero of mine.

What class Lemond is. Have you seen that footage of Armstrong whacking that old spectator guy from behind just because he's in his way after a bad stage?

No argument about Bauer. He was an incredibly strong rider.
He won the Dauphine and placed highly in a lot of other major events. He was no fluke. I think that perhaps he should have focused on 1 week stage races. He had the ability to take and hold a lead for a week.
When I think of LeMond, Bauer and Hampsten that year - I think of north-american cycling's "Band Of Brothers"

Not enough credit is given to Steve Bauer ... at 5:13 or so, he helped make Tour history by enabling Greg LeMond to stay in the game and eventually win. So indirectly Steve Bauer helped shape the Tour that year by helping Greg LeMond when he most needed it.
Steve Bauer's showing in 1988 was amazing and incredible, but what he did here in 1986 on this mountain to help LeMond should also be remembered.

2011 tour needs more stationary shots.
LeMond will FOREVER be THE GREATEST American cyclist (with Hampsten second)! LeMond raced to win! and NOT just the Tour de France! Velodrome, one-days, and grand tours! THAT is the stuff REAL cyclists are made of!

If you're used to 4,000 calorie breakfasts, I suppose it's a hard habit to break when you no longer ride hundreds of kikometres every day!
