It depends on the genre though - Ultra gain amps seem harder to emulate. My study was based around guitar sounds with light and moderate distortion (Think early AC/DC and some early 80's metal).

@HKP1994 I conducted a study on modelling vs miking a "real" amp, for the uni. Both audio production students and teachers (of one is a life time member of AES - That guy knows his shit, he can go on and on and on for hours about anything audio related) participated in a series of "blind tests".
The results stated that modelling can match miking a "real" tube amp. It's a matter of tweaking in both cases It was also very hard to tell a difference between GOOD modelled amps and real amps.

Is the Yamaha RGX321 any good? Thinking of selling my squier strat and getting the Yamaha RGX321, I mostly play metal though.
