On Saturday, June 27th, in thousands of communities across the country, Organizing for America volunteers hosted health care events as part of a National Health Care Day of Service.
30BARACK, a grassroots community organizing group from California's 30th congressional district, partnered with 93.5 The Beat FM, National Action Network (NAN), Palms Residential Care and the County of Los Angeles STD Program to provide an underserved community with much-needed health care services, education and information.
Nearly seven hundred South Los Angeles residents turned out to get free blood pressure, body measurement, blood glucose, HIV/AIDS and STD screenings, as well as learn about low-cost local clinics and programs like CHIP. In addition, massage therapists, yoga instructors, nutritionists and holistic medicine practitioners counseled fair attendees on healthy eating and living.
