about "Dona Dona":
This song of Aaron Zeitlin and Sholom Secunda was always misunderstood by everybody: Jews and non-Jews. It's not a story about a calf that didn't learn to fly, it's not a song of taking responsibility for your own freedom. It's not about that Jews didn't fight against the Nazis -- and they did if they could, like every human being in that situation would. The song is a bitter picture of less opportunities. And always the wind is laughing.
On a wagon bound and helpless
Lies a calf, who is doomed to die.
High above him flies a swallow
