How do I put this? Is this the exact way to write, or is the little "flick" at the end of a line more like a flourish of the pen that adults can do naturally like adult English writers use "joined up" handwriting? Is it the same letter if I draw a smooth line without the little "flick".

Secondly, does this flourish come from the fact people used caligraphy brushes in Japanese history and it would be where the brush made and left contact with the paper?

@loquatiousbadger These videos show you the correct stroke order of each kana & they ARE ALSO the exact way to write each kana for regular writing, not calligraphy. This is similar to English penmanship with the alphabet. We learn to write each letter correctly then begin to find our own natural writing style (w/ a little less freedom in Japanese). As far as the so called "flick" goes, it is mainly for Japanese calligraphy & there are many variations of the "flick" with different brush strokes.

wow your "a" is beautiful (it's not to repeat the 1st comment, it really is). my doubt is if the "i" can have less space in-between the strokes. that's why im watching different videos of writing hiragana. good one!

Keep trying hard to get the あ... it doesn't matter how many times i try it still doesn't seems right....

@anarhy09 that i is almost textbook like, a slightly more curved second stroke and that's how you find it in japanese textbooks
