Well in terms of style, I'd say many games are upping the scale with graphics and music. Problem is that many games don't leave that heavy of an emotional impact as much as games of the past did. Not as much anyway. Games like what Enix and Quintet made were known for tackling hard subject matter and leaving you with something more tactile when you play...

why didnt video games develop more in this direction as far as style and music? i know games appeal to younger people, but still... I had such high hopes for video games as a medium, but i feel disappointed about what they've become.

I love the epic orchestral sound of the Actraiser games. This soundtrack of this one sounds especially like a dramatic opera or ballet taking place and definitely encompasses the biblical nature of the game.
Only thing I don't like about the 2nd is that it's not as melodic as the first and doesn't stick as well to the memory IMO. But the sound is still much more embellished and amps the emotions up at a higher level than before. Simply beautiful.

when I listen this I imagine a somewhat like Chrono Trigger battle scene in normal gameplay againts some unknown enemy who attacked them for no reason (and I also imagen that enemy as uber hax)
