@mikesandytoes Tanks have a normal trans., just reinforced to handle the torque. A tank has 5-6 Fore and 1-2 Rev. gears (tanks drive in reverse at high speed when retreating).
They also usually have a complex drivetrain to steer. Typical is a differential between tracks, so gradual turns brake a track slightly and hte other one speeds up, while sharp turns they clutch and lock the track. They can also drive one track forward and hte other backwards to steer in place.
