I think it is because doctors see deafness or HOH as an IMPAIRMENT that they can fix. I am HOH due to a childhood accident, I use aids to help me hear, not make me a complete hearing person. However, when I had a TMJ (jaw disorder) that Dr referred me to a hearing Dr and i refused to go because my hearing did not cause the jaw disorder nor did I want surgery to fix my hearing which is what the jaw Dr said 'would help me'...help me what? EXCELLENT VIDEO...thx for sharing
Well said :) Always enjoy your blog and videos. Thanks for sharing. Yes, the doctor was coming from a forensic/medical viewpoint only. Would be great if medical school included classes in cultural sensitivity and awareness. But oh, well... ;)
Great vlog and very true....why can't they accept you just as you are...you already have identity and are happy as to who you are! Same as me, happy for who I am! Have a great day!
welcome back! good to see another heart-honest, Deafhood-positive, personal story and reflection from you. Hope to see more of that in future. Also, welcome back from your journeys. Hugs.
Ah, your doctor must be very interested in your ears. Did you mean ENT that your dr recommended you to see? ENT - Ear, Nose and Throat. My kids were referred to the ENT, but I never made the appointment as I didnt see any reason to take $ out of my wallet, ha.

Is the doctor young? Younger doctors can be quite zealous sometimes...
