I think it is because doctors see deafness or HOH as an IMPAIRMENT that they can fix. I am HOH due to a childhood accident, I use aids to help me hear, not make me a complete hearing person. However, when I had a TMJ (jaw disorder) that Dr referred me to a hearing Dr and i refused to go because my hearing did not cause the jaw disorder nor did I want surgery to fix my hearing which is what the jaw Dr said 'would help me'...help me what? Well said :) Always enjoy your blog and videos. Thanks for sharing. Yes, the doctor was coming from a forensic/medical viewpoint only. Would be great if medical school included classes in cultural sensitivity and awareness. But oh, well... ;)

Ah, your doctor must be very interested in your ears. Did you mean ENT that your dr recommended you to see? ENT - Ear, Nose and Throat. My kids were referred to the ENT, but I never made the appointment as I didnt see any reason to take $ out of my wallet, ha.
