Egypt's fight against the diabetes epidemic began at midnight on Friday November 14th, 2008 when the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, the only remaining landmarks from the ancient world's seven wonders, were lit up in blue.
The World Diabetes Day activities attracted great media coverage both on the local and regional levels, bringing the Changing Diabetes project into the spotlight.
The health village featured a number of specialized tents well equipped to serve the 41,600 visitors who attended over the three days. This huge number of attendees is a great leap compared to the 11,000 visitors who attended the World Diabetes Day activities in Egypt last year.
But perhaps the highlight of this year's event was the Changing Diabetes forum that brought together 600 doctors. The speakers' list included some of the biggest names in the diabetes field as well as Lotte Bjerre, the inventor of Liraglutide
