This is just a couple days after I brought home my beautiful puppy. I got him from my best friend who occasionally breeds her two beautiful Basset Hounds. He was the runt, but now he's huge! This video was taken back in early November 2009. He's 23 lbs now, and he's only 3 months old (male Basset Hounds are typically between 50 and 60 lbs full grown).

Update: Unfortunately, the "friend" who I purchased my puppy from ended up giving him away even though she told me countless times that she would let him stay with her until I found a suitable home. Lesson learned, don't trust anyone but yourself.

  • if you haven't had a basset before then you should know there vary vary stubborn and it takes a special kind of person to own one, the most common thing i see in my basset rescue is that people cant handle them and just dump them, if he turns out to be too much don't dump him on the side of a road.

I know I shouldn't take your comment personally, but I am horrified at your suggestion that I might dump my beloved Prince Charming on the side of the road. I *hate* people who don't take care of their pets. I took a long time decided whether or not I could handle the responsibility of a Basset Hound after experiencing them firsthand through my best friend's two adorable, but incredibly stubborn bassets. (more in next message)

No, I hadn't had a basset before, but I did research and found that their stubbornness, as well as their drool factor, often leads to their new owners ditching them. People are stupid, what can I say. I'm not one of those people though. Charming is now a little over a year, and he's actually bigger than both of his parents (despite being the "runt" that nobody wanted). He brings me joy every single day. And just so you know, he's been fixed, so as not to pass on his bad overbite.
