this is the Urbi et Orbi blessing, correct? traditionally it (the blessing and greetings) was done in Latin. PJPII began the custom of greeting the people in various languages. and the rest, they say, is history.
yup, this is real, if you are an active catholic and is always updated to the activities of the church, this had been a long practice of popes every easter and christmas which was i think started by BLSD. John Paul II
