What a scare folks! This yellow Staunton School Bus was making a mandatory stop at a RR X'ing when NS 302 with conductor Williams and engineer Thaxton was coming. The gates came down before the driver realized. He then backed up springing the gate and it hitting the windshield of the bus! Notice the cars backing up behind the bus! The crew was a little stirred up! Anyways, be careful at crossings! The gates are for you're protection not for looks! Thank you. NS 9183 and NS D9-40C.

  • I am a Bus Driver myself, and Imma tell each one of you something. Driving a school bus with 60 kids is something you will NEVER understand unless you do it yourself. I am sure this bus driver was doing nothing less than all she could to get a clear view and proceed. It happens. She took corrective action and backed up. WAY TO GO BUS DRIVER!!!!

  • I'm on the engineer's side. just blow the horn like crazy.

  • I swear my heart stopped beating for a few minutes.... that's terrifying! I can't imagine how the driver and the train engineer felt!

  • When something like that happens, don't be afraid to throw it in reverse or drive and shove on the diesel to get the kids to safety if you have to. I'm sure those wooden gates are easy to destroy.

  • I think someone should have gone to spec-savers

  • Well 1991Travisbowers i do understand i drive a motorcoach i do tours. i carry all ages of passenger even tho its not a school bus but i do follow the rules of railroad crossing! even if the trackes are no longer in use, i take no chances with people lives!

  • Some people...always out for someones head. That was nothing. I'm a train conductor and I'll tell you that was nothing. The driver stopped. So the gate come down on the hood, big deal. I've had 2 close calls with school buses that actually tried to beat our train. Looking at 20 horrified faces staring at me while the driver tries to out run us, that's something to say oh shit about. NOT a stopped bus with a gate on the hood. Good job bus driver.

  • not surprised

  • aw i wanted to see a bus get hit for once.

  • Imagine how the engine crew felt when they saw that school bus!
