  • We love the Queen. She is much better than a President. Presidents come and go. The Queen has been there for nearly 60 years, and she has worked continously her whole life. Our monarchy has provided Britain with a stability not seen in much of Europe. We British are traditional people, and we love our heritage, despite the Labour government's best efforts to destroy our heritage with a pointless reform of the House of Lords. The Queen has approval ratings that no PM/ President can dream of

  • Unelected... you mean like Gordon Brown and Lord Mandelson and Glenys Kinnock and Lord Adonis and Baroness Royall?

  • @Mickmars90 What do you mean when you say that Gordon Brown unelected? I assume, and correct me if I'm wrong, you mean he wasn't elected Prime Minister. Could you tell me, then, which Prime Ministers were elected? Winston Churchill, perhaps? Thatcher? Blair? No, none of them were. After a general election, the party (or parties) with the most amount of seats form a government and elect a Prime Minister from within the government. Brown was a joke, but I hate this "unelected" crap.

  • meakon.

  • William Hague should have been Prime Minister, Instead we had filthy Tony Blair.

The only reasons I can that I can think of him not winning was because his party was divided on the E.U, He had Portillio as Shadow Chancellor and he was going to privatise Channel 4 so we could get our licence fee money back.

William Hague would have been overall good for the country.

  • hague ois a class act. this labour govt is doomed! its about time too!

  • So why is Lord Digby Jones still a peer?

  • Justify it however you like, but everyone knows - probably even you if your honest with yourself - that democracy has been dealt a massive blow in this country by Labour.

They treat our civil liberties with contempt, as the appalling ID Card scheme demonstrates. Brown himself said that an election would bring "chaos" - a deeply offensive remark if ever I heard one.

Labour always think they know best, and give themselves more powers to carry out their damaging policies. They'll never change.

  • Any appointments by this elected government are not guaranteed for life and their sons will not take over their positions. Compare that with the rich sons of Lords taking daddy's position in the House of Lords when daddy dies to block the legislation of an ELECTED government if they don't like it. Labour has gotten rid of most of these hereditory Lords and WILL finish the job off, given time.

  • Mickmars is spot on.

The irony of a Labour supporter whinging about lack of democracy is breath taking, given the current leadership and cabinet.

Labour couldn't care less about democracy or the people; they're a thoroughly corrupt bunch and the sooner we turf them out the better!

    BRING ON THE ELECTION!

  • ''...despite the Labour government's best efforts to destroy our heritage with a pointless reform of the House of Lords."

When the rich sons of Lords can take daddy's seat in the House of Lords when daddy dies, it NEEDS reform. The Labour party have gotten rid of most of these unelected toffs and will finish the job, given time.
