It's the fall of 1997 and the Central New York Chapter, NRHS ran this excursion on the Finger Lakes Railway.

  • Rumor has it these units have been bought for use on the new saratoga and north creek railroad

  • @WSOR10C I believe that rumor has been confirmed in the CNYNRHS chapter newsletter.

  • I was chief mechanical officer of the CNY chapter for the restoration of both of these E-8s. We had a great crew, including a very talented New York Central veteran. Many wonderful people put thousands of hours work into these. After the chapter hosted the NRHS convention in 1998, the drama in the club became unbearable. The mechanical crew was totally disrespected, and dispersed a few months before the war started on Sept.11th. 2001 I am happy our work has brought you pleasure.

  • @WECOMirrophonic Thanks so much for the comment! Yes, those were great engines to photograph; it's a shame they don't see service anymore. What happened with the CNY NRHS is too indicative of what many of the Upstate groups have gone through over the years. It's sad. Perhaps this is naive to say, but why can't everyone just get along?
