A request from theoletrex. He sent me The Blues Brothers version of this song, but I am of an age that remembers it sung by Frankie Laine as the theme song for a cowboy series on TV by the same name. It introduced a very young star, Clint Eastwood, who played the role of Rowdy Yates if memory serves.
In the Frankie Laine version, there are a number of sound effects particularly whiplash, but I am not attempting to reproduce that, merely enjoying myself reminiscing on days long gone.
As far as I can discover, the song was written by Andre Boehm

I do not understand the reason why, but I am unable to add annotations at present, so will include the lyrics and chords here instead. (Sorry for the inconvenience)

(Em)Rollin', rollin', rollin'. Rollin', rollin', rollin'.
(G)Rollin', rollin', rollin'. Raw(Em)hide! Hah! Hah!

(Em)Keep rollin', rollin', rollin', though the streams are swollen,
(G)Keep them dogies rollin', rawhide.
Through (Em)rain and wind and (D)weather, (Em)hell bent for leather,
(D)Wishin' my (C)gal was by my (B7)side.
(Em)All the things I'm missin', good (D)vitals, love, and (Em)kissin',
Are (D)waiting (Em)at the (D)end of my (Em)ride.

(Em)Move 'em out, head 'em up, (B7)head 'em up, move 'em on.
(Em)Move 'em out, head 'em up: Raw(B7)hide.
(Em)Cut 'em out, ride 'em in, (B7)ride 'em in, cut 'em out,
(Em)Cut 'em out, ride 'em (C)in: (B7)Raw(Em)hide! Hah! Hah!

Movin', movin', movin', though they're disapprovin',
Keep them dogies movin', rawhide.
Don't try to understand 'em, just rope an' throw an' brand 'em.
Soon we'll be living high and wide.
My heart's calculatin', my true love will be waitin':
Waitin' at the end of my ride.

Move 'em out, head 'em up, head 'em up, move 'em on.
Move 'em out, head 'em up: Rawhide.
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in, ride 'em in, cut 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in:
Rawhide!

(Rollin', rollin', rollin'.) (Rollin', rollin', rollin'.) Hah!
(Rollin', rollin', rollin'.) Hah! (Rollin', rollin', rollin'.) Rawhide. Hah! Rawhide!

10th Sept: I have finally been able to add the annotations on screen, so you can now follow them there as well.

  • @johnb406 Happy to have been of help John. Only sorry not to have been able to put the annotations on screen. I will keep trying.

  • Lovely clear lyrics, now I know what the song is about!

  • @MrTenonSaw Thanks for your kind comment. For some unaccountable reason, I seem to be unable to add annotations to this video, so I will have to add the lyrics and chords with the information.

  • Hello...love this :)))

  • Lovely performance!

  • While Frankie did it best I still loved the Blues Brothers version! Thanks for sharing.

  • Song always reminds me of the Blues Brothers :) "We have both types of music here...country, AND western"

I claim the right to suggest I'm too young to remember Rawhide on TV ;)

    ...but only just.
