Chesapeake & Ohio J3a 4-8-4 614 pulls the 17-car "Erie Limited" from Hoboken NJ to Port Jervis NY and return.

November 1, 1998

My DVD of these trips is available now at:
http://www.steamtrainvideos.com

This was the last trip 614 ran before being placed back into storage. There was an attempt to sell the locomotive at auction (I believe Andy Muller was either the only bidder or the highest bidder), but no one met the asking price. Sometime afterwards an agreement was reached to move the locomotive to the Reading and Northern RR facilities in Port Clinton PA, where it resided until early 2011.

  • Now available on DVD. See link above.

  • How fast was it going at 3:47?

    Awesome video!

  • Maybe 45-50 mph? It's been along time... There were some slow spots near Tuxedo NY, but this is north of Southfields where they began to gain speed.

  • How often did they run the Hoboken-Port Jervis trips?

  • 22 trips between 96 and 98 plus a few additional test runs and make-up trips.
