Yukio Mishima was one of the most prolific and celebrated writers that ever lived, and this is his only film. It is also a disturbing example of life imitating art since it depicts a gruesome act of HaraKiri that Mishima himself would re-enact four years after filming, forgoing pig-guts for the theatrical glory of his own.
In the original version of the film the musical score is program music by Wagner off a crackly old 78, but I've taken it upon myself to desecrate this fine piece of classic cinema and re-score the entire film with original music.
I hope you enjoy it!

  • very moving and simultaniously frightening, perfect. watching this feels like looking into a dark reality few are aware of even exists. the newly given soundtrack gives it an ethereal quality.

  • DVDは特典DVDも付いていたが所持したくない内容である為,売却済みである.18禁指定がついている.

  • PRIDE!!

Mishima was a little nutty, however, it's an honorable way to go.

I've studied Japanese 'death poetry' in great depth....very inspiring.

  • Making Seppuku look nice huh

  • Superbe composition d'Aaron Embry

  • @ainhoator, You are right, that is the same feeling i get. Maybe it is beacause we know the real outcome and watches the private preparations/meditation/training for it? And considering the authors private background, especially as a small child as it is told to us, it gives it even a more heartbreaking, worry:ing feeling, at least when you are a mother, as i am.

  • he's more well-suited to be a film director.

the transition from 6:48 to 6:51 and 3:14 to 3:16 is immaculate - a perfect perspectival space. in closer look, this is highly influenced by the history of linear perspective. i love how artists explore this idea in their works, it is in some sense more "experimental" than most of the "experimental art' out there

however i thought the film would be more interesting in silence.

  • really love the music on the background. Quite eerie and well-suited for this one. It gives another dimension to the whole movie from a minimalist perspective. What is the source of the piece? Also, What is that english scribble to start with? I wish you would never play with the original entry. Thanks for posting, though.

  • Mishima is one of my favourite japanese writers.
