ha i just realised the bracketed part of my comment doesnt really make sense seeing as u said sweet iron with copper inlay...lol just ignore that .....ive been on youtube too long and my brain is not functioning at normal capacity lol

i use a sweet iron(thats what the copper inlay bits are called her in Aus.) on my quarter horse and it was so good at the start...bit scratched up now lol (not sharp but taken off some of the top layer) so dont know if the copper still works but my friend who bred and trained him uses them on all his horses and thinks they are really good :)

Dude, I love how "plain english" you are! Basic, straight to the point! And the "snaffle shank" bit...shoot.10 years ago I remember they were all the rage...and just this last year, I really looked at what it was doing in my horses mouth...I had 3...they all went into the garbage. Just plain old snaffle bits (loose ring or full cheek) for me or I really like those bitless bridles...my old gelding can go anywhere with just a halter and leadrope though. :-) he's a saint!

Thats ok someone stopped by yesterday who was darn near born on a horse and also thought he was a mare..lol..must be because he is so pretty! haha! Actually hes still low on weight etc from when he arrived so I think the fact he is so slender causes the mix up.
So maybe I will look for a bit like that for my collection! I would love to send this horse to Endo I know he could fix him up quick with the Tap but I didnt win the lottery yet!!!

LOL. Sorry about the mix up. I like the sweet iron with the copper inlays. There's a chemical reaction there like a soft (very) soft battery zing. Causes the salivation. Little known fact, but it does. :D

I do have a hackamore so might try that thanks! Sultan is a he tho not she..lol...a gelding! I have an eggbutt here too but havent used it yet...next trip to a real town I want to grab a few sweet iron bits. Cant buy tack here and I like to see what Im buying so never shop online. Ya and give me lotsa foundation too incase something erupts...lol...look spot..see Jane run!!! hahaha! (joking!) LOL

The eggbutt, just like a D ring, is pretty much a good bit, and combines the best of a full cheek with a simple O-ring. For your arab, I would recommend a solid foundation on the ground, give her lots of foundation to fall back on in case something erupts.
If she was my arab, I would probably put her in a traditional hacakmore (jaquima) and start her softly there, with lots of slow, low work. But that's just if she was my mare. LOL. You know her better, use your judgment and be careful. :D
If you have read Mark Rashid's article on why the Tom Thumb is a bad bit, then why would you say the "broken curb" is any different? Sure, it gives a "presignal" but it still give confusing multisignas of lateral pressure, palate pressure, polle pressure and curb pressure. I think everything Mark said was bad about the TT is equally bad about the broken curb.

@tinyliny4ever Primarily due to that presignal. It's key to setting up everything in that bit, or any bit. Your points regarding the conflicting signals is a valid concern, however, the presignal is what sets the horse up to "pay attention, you're going to be given a feel to follow in a moment." Without it, those cues mean nothing. With it, they become a cued feel to follow. Mind you, poor horsemanship and preparation, and even the best and kindest of curbs is as bad as a TT.
