A Response To An Apathetic Attitude Towards Human Life

This is our Response:

In response to the letter sent by Errol P. Jerrier who got it publish in the Maritzburg Fever (Included in the video). We are rather shocked by the apathetic attitude towards human life and the condemnation of a church and a Reverend that I doubt he has ever met. (Which by the way I have attended that church a few times and I think that the congregation are AMAZING and I have the at most respect for the REV. - I have taken great offense by the way you speak of the REV..) While in a perfect world the Baby Safe would certainly not be needed, but then neither would you need religion, and as a Christian you would not need Jesus. We would not need to protest outside the court to protect the unborn and we would not need a Child Protection Act to protect the hundreds of children that are beaten, abused and abandoned each day in South Africa.

But alas, we live in a broken world where we need safety nets left, right and center to protect the children that we as adult we fail to protect and care for -- more so the children that are left to DIE in garbage bags, drowned, buried alive or killed by putting a screw driver through their heads. These infants are as voiceless as the unborn. The unborn at least have the voice as millions of pro-life individuals from around the world continue to fight for life. Whilst a handful of people are not even aware of the fight that we call "the modern abortion" where live and born babies are murdered by the very mothers that are meant to protect them.

The Baby Safe is just one of the methods used to treat the symptoms whilst we spend most of our week WALKING in the streets of the townships and rural areas talking to woman about abstinence, contraception, child care and child abuse and neglect, life skills, HIV etc. - All as a method to treat the cause of the moral decay in our city and in our world.

This whole picture is greater than what is before us; there are hundreds of lives each with their own story and their own reasons, trauma and baggage. As a young couple we feel that it is our life calling to go out there and do our part in touching and changing lives forever. And Assist was created to reach more than what we can do in our own personal capacities. But for those women we have not yet reached -- at least we know there is a Baby Safe that prevents their baby from suffering and dying a painful and unbearable death.

We wish we can change the world and fix everyone problems, we wish we can stop every child or infant from suffering and experiencing any form of pain. We wish that our society can change and start caring more for one another, that our morals and values will once again dominate our actions, that no child will go hungry and that we will NEVER BECOME THE SOCITY THAT CHINA HAS CREATED. If you have watched the video you would know what I am talking about. China became this way from years of the gradual moral degeneration and the lack of love, care and respect for others and human life. LET US NOT BECOME LIKE THIS. I beg you; let us not get to this point because than I fear that we will have no hope left.

Background of the Baby Safe:

Baby dumping and abandonment is a sad reality in our country with a high number of newborns being found dead each year. A quote from the Municipality street cleaners supervisor "...it has become normal for street sweepers and toilet cleaners to find abandoned bodies of babies. Most bodies are found in street trash bins."

There are many factors which contribute to this, but it is definite that if there was a safer alternative, most moms would leave their baby in safety. South Africa has about 4 safes around the country and in these locations the babysafe has greatly decreased the incidents of fatalities due to baby dumping.

With one safe already installed in our city we have been instrumental in saving a number of babies' lives. We hope to have many more though out the city offering hope before a mom gets to the desperate point of murder and are looking for sponsors. Once the baby has been placed into the babysafe we are notified by voice call and a safety backup system confirms that the baby has been collected. One of our medically trained volunteers will then fetch the baby from the safe. The babies' rescued though the babysafe will be cared for at our place of safety until an adoption can take place (6-12 months).
