  • I am amazed at what ordinary voices these ladies had. This simply doesn't compare to what we have around today. It is nice to have recordings so we can hear what they sounded like. But there is a lack of musicianship, musicality and quality of voice. This cannot compare to Sutherland or Sills or Netrobko ...

  • Respond to this video... Are you kidding?? NetrEbko's artistry and musicianship doesn't even approach that of Galli-Curci. As for Sutherland and Sills, both of these ladies would certainly tell you just how much they admired Galli-Curci and how she influenced their careers. Sills herself mentioned this to me when I had the

privilege of meeting her in 1980.

  • @eblackadder3 I would never mention Anna Netboko with greats like Galli-Curci, Sills or Sutherland.

  • the first third is mediocre. the rest is excellent.

  • Looking at the Title it could also be "Lo! Hear The Gentle Lark"

  • Much better than Sutherland's much later imitation, obviously. But the definitive rendition of this song is Nellie Melba's.

  • @gdabreo You don't know what y'ou're talking about. Today,we can (make) a voice sound the way we want. I know 'cause i own a studio recording classical voices. At thta time they could not cheat like now, Pavarotti for example that never had a voice for big halls.

  • Netboko wouldn,t stand a chance with Caruso and Gili. Just listen to her pre electric recordings; no dubbing or mixing, just pure quality.

  • How I wish that the recording technology had existed to capture Galli-Curci at her peak.To my humble ear, there are ample hints here of how glorious her voice must have been.Granted, training techniques in her day were greatly different than now and standards have simultaneously evolved, but she must have been spectacular. But, again to my personal taste, Sills' rendition is unsurpassable.

  • @baritonebynight Netrebo is a vocal midget lined up against the likes of Sutherland and Sills.
