New Angels Appear in Isaakiyevsky Cathedral

On Sunday angels appeared on the walls of Isaakiyevsky cathedral in St.Petersburg.

Bright aqua colored paint and many smiling young faces lit up the atmosphere.

Masha is 10 years old and studies at an orthodox school. Knowing that the girl paints well, her teacher invited her to participate. Masha feels that the celestial theme is very close to her heart.

[Masha, painter]:
"Angel -- is a spirit, who helps you for all the time and does a lot for you -- protects you from misfortune."

15-year old Nastya has painting in her blood, thanks to her father who is an icon-painter. She began painting at a very early age and sees angels in her own special way.

[Nastya, painter]:
"Angels -- are higher celestial being without body. It is God`s beginning, who observes each person and controls his acts and guides the person. It depends on ourselves whether or not we listen to our own angel."

Many children attended the class with their parents. The organizers say that it reminds parents how important it is to foster a high moral standard in their children.

[Mother]:
"Children paint what they feel, how they see their city, and how they imagine angels. Many of them met angels for the first time on this project."

Isaakiyevsky cathedral is the biggest orthodox cathedral in St. Petersburg and was built in the 18th century. Today it is used as a museum but still gives services on holidays and weekends.
