NORWELL A new lab at Norwell Middle School will al low students to further immerse themselves in the foreign lan guage of their choice. The high-tech lab, initially slated to open with the new school building in 2001 before it fell victim to budget cuts, was funded by the Parent Teacher Organization and made possible thanks to creativity of adminis trators. The PTO managed to put money aside for the project each year, and donated $18,000 to the school to make it happen. Despite an increasingly bare- bones budget, the school was able to cover the rest of the cost by using computers and furni ture taken from other parts of the school and refurbishing it for the language lab.
Without re-using the equip ment, the lab would have cost triple what the PTO gave us, said Principal Derek Sulc, who presented the lab to school com mittee and parents this week. The lab will help individual ize language lessons for seventh and eighth graders studying Spanish, French and Latin, said Magister Joseph Davenport.
