You would think Eddie Van Halen would quit smoking after that tongue/cancer thing. I knew a guy who actually had a lung removed (in his late 50's), and the dummy kept smoking. Of course emphysema got him only a couple of years after that, and then he died within a year. I would not try to tell people not to smoke, but when you get those kinds of warnings and you keep doing it, you might have crossed from the land of risk taking to the isle of stupid.

hes literally a genius. i know theres so many guitarists in rock that are better. paul gilbert friedman fuckin satch all those buggers but this guy is really a genius. he knows his instrument so well and i dunno. his innovative ideas were always there making things a little better for people that use them. like the skin oils vs satin finishes or even heavy finishes. if you leave it bare it gets better with time. genius.

@wickedtothemisty - Emphysema's got to be one of the worst ways to die. I quit when my doc described the final months. Bring me my gun, please! It's prolly up there with getting stuck in a chimney or having your face eaten by rats or picked clean by vultures.

I became a paraplegic at 49 and soon lost the use of my hands from the canes and crutches. Pure hell! The use of my fingers improved a bit, but still no feeling or feedback.

I'd have a tough time losing my tongue, though.

@dean0o0o true, and although those guys may be better technical guitar players, i would say Eddie is still better because I like his music so much more, and in the end its about the music. of course, then it comes down to tastes, and thats a whole other thing...
