Part 1 of the epic tale known as the Astron Song. This song was created for an astrophysics project. Needless to say, it turned out to be the greatest endeavor in the astrophysics community, and a project of this magnitude has never been seen before it. It will go down in history as the greatest astrophysics project known to Man.

Lyrics:
An interstellar molecular cloud made of cold gas and dust
Will contract from its own gravity if its dense enough.
Angular momentum is removed, mass is gained through accretion.
The proto-star reaches 6 million Kelvin in the interior region.
As it reaches equilibrium, opacity it high.
The proto-star is now luminous, you can see it high in the sky.
It enters onto the Hayashi track, after fusion is formed;
After only 50 Mega-years a star is born.

Star, star, youre so far away
Trying to understand your mysterious way
The way you shine, oh what a sight
I can only see you in the darkness of night

Hydrogen is converted to helium in the central core,
There will be an increase in temperature and luminosity for sure.
The main sequence is where a star spends most of its time.
There is an increase in fusion rate, helping the star to shine.
As a good example, think of the town that youre from;
Theres one main street that all the big stores are on.
The outer part expands, the central part contracts,
The star is on the main sequence until hydrogen is what it lacks.

Star, star, youre so far away
Trying to understand your mysterious way
The way you shine, oh what a sight
I can only see you in the darkness of night

When hydrogen fusion is complete, it forms an enclosing shell.
The star becomes a Red Giant when its radius swells.
Three helium make one carbon in the Triple-alpha process,
Inside the hydrogen shell, the helium core gets no rest.
When it is carbon and oxygen, fusion spreads to an outward shell,
It enters the Asymptotic Giant branch and the core contracts as well.
Bright helium flashes and thermal pulses occur,
The star becomes bigger and brighter, like an unstable blur.

Oh star youre a giant and you aged so fast
You used to be a cloud of dust far back in the past
Youve been on the main sequence for a long long time
Oh how I wonder, how much longer will you shine

During the Giant stages, stellar winds increase.
Thanks to Mira pulsations, mass on the surface is released.
Most of the mass is lost into space after hundreds of thousands of years,
Nearly stripped to its fusion zone, losing all of its outer tiers.
The envelope is ionized, the shell begins to glow,
As a planetary nebula, its remnants begin to show.
Nuclear fusion shuts down, the old core dims and cools,
A white dwarf is created when the star runs out of fuel.

Star, star, youre so far away
Trying to understand your mysterious way
The star has less mass than the Chandrasekhar limit
There is less than 1.4 solar masses in it

Fusion creates heavier elements, for stars of 8 solar masses and higher.
For these supergiants, the core eventually turns to iron.
The core is surrounded by many shells, as each fusion stage moves out.
Iron cant fuse to produce energy, something nobody would doubt.
The core suddenly collapses, iron atoms are broken up.
This all happens when the density is great enough.
The core violently rebounds, outer layers are torn away.
This is known as a Supernova right to this very day.

The old core is hot and compact, its known as a Neutron star.
If you wanted to measure its radius, it wouldnt be very far.
The stars life is at an end, it must decide whats in store;
It will collapse into a black hole if its solar mass is over 1.4.
The course of a stars life depends mostly on its mass,
And as the star grows up, there will be many changes to its class.
From its tumultuous beginning, to the day its fusion fails,
The stars life has reached completion, so ends this epic tale.

Star, star, youre so far away
Trying to understand your mysterious way
The way you shine, oh what a sight
I can only see you in the darkness of night
