NEW YORK, USA, 12 February 2009 One of opera's most celebrated stars has joined forces with UNICEF to advocate for children's rights.

UNICEF Executive Director Ann M. Veneman yesterday appointed Russian soprano Maria Guleghina as UNICEF's newest Goodwill Ambassador. "Ms. Guleghina's acclaimed voice will deliver a truly powerful message on behalf of the world's children," she declared.
Ms. Guleghina has performed with the brightest stars at the world's greatest opera houses and is particularly noted for her interpretation of the title role in 'Tosca'. She is in New York to perform the title role in 'Adriana Lecouvreur' at the Metropolitan Opera, opposite Plácido Domingo
