What is the point of the inverted sword? You can't generate enough force on anything but a stab, which I did not see. Why not just use a shield?

Good catch there. At that particular practice Oscad actually wanted to work on his mobility. He was using an inverted great sword specifically because it IS defensively inferior to a shield and opens his legs up to more shots. He was experimenting to see if the weaker defense would force him to move around more.
