Its hard to find a cheap and good northbridge fan. the fan that came with my motherboard - intel DX58SO was the loudest fan in my tower, by a LOT. So it had to go.

This fan goes for ~$15 retail and installs in 5 minutes. Put it exactly where you need cooling (fiddle with it to get it to stay securely) and you are set.

The side pointing out is the air intake.. the air is being pushed onto the chipset.. the other side of the fan has the LEDS, so it shouldn't face the other direction.

This is very quiet, my PSU is now the loudest fan, and its an overall nice deep hum of air moving.

Complaint: It isnt stiff enough to just set it in place. You have to mess arounc with it so it falls in place.. dont adjust it with your computer flat, you have to account for gravity when putting it in place.

Case is an Antec 900, Intel DX58SO motherboard

  • I find it odd that you go for an additional fan for your northbridge yet stick with a stock intel cooling solution for your cpu... very odd.

  • @ccben my coolermaster V8 was in the mail still at the time.

  • damn that mount system sucks, what if you move the computer, lan party, fan may get out of position and not do its job

  • @labobo it has held in place for over a year now even traveling from home to apartment a few times.

  • @labobo Thats exactly what I was thinking. Not only not do its job (it would be easy to reposition) but fall on a component and possible short something out.

  • @MtnXfreeride huh, then it just looks bad i guess

  • @sale2009 it is a 3 pin connector u should have several on your motherboard

  • @danorambo the side of his case is vented 2:31 and his other fans will suck out the heat anyways he is just adding a nice quiet more effecient cooling and not to mention it looks nice and these fans are not expensive and they have and 8 inch lead and u can put it any where in your case unlike any other fan mod

  • @danorambo the side of his case is vented it will be fine

  • @572dwayne i decided i was gonna get one so i ordered one today id say it will make huge difference in temp mine only runs at 29C with 500gb hard drive 4 gb ram which im wanting to up grade to some ripjaws and i have intel 3.2ghz duel core processor with nvidia geforce 9500GT 1gb graphics card
